Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: The recommended method of testing a relief valve is by the removal of the valve from the machine. Use a test bench to test and adjust the valve.
Start the engine. Run the engine at high idle. Operate the control levers and move all the cylinders in order to increase the temperature of the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature.
Lower the decking blade and the grapple to the ground. Stop the engine.

Move the steering frame lock to the locked position.
Release the pressure from the hydraulic system.Reference: Refer to the Service Manual module for Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.

Open engine access door (1). Remove cover panel (2) in order to access the steering control valve more easily.Note: The steering cylinder crossover relief valves have a higher pressure setting than the relief valve for the priority flow control valve. In order to set the valve properly, the steering cylinder crossover relief valves must be removed and placed in a test bench, or a remote pump must be installed.

Remove the hose assembly from bottom port (5) of steering control valve (3). Plug the hose assembly.
Assemble fittings and attach 3S-6224 Electric Hydraulic Pump to bottom port (5). Install an appropriate gauge between the pump and steering control valve (3) .Note: The reservoir of 3S-6224 Electric Hydraulic Pump only contains 7.58 L (2 US gal) of oil. Ensure that the pump does not run out of oil.

Start the pump and slowly increase the pump pressure. Look at the test gauge. The pressure setting of steering cylinder crossover relief valve (7) should be 24200 350 kPa (3510 50 psi).
Stop the pump.
If the opening pressure of the relief valve is at the specification, proceed to Step 14. If the opening pressure of the relief valve is not at the specification, adjust the relief valve.

Loosen locknut (8) and turn adjusting screw (9) clockwise in order to increase the relief valve setting. Turn adjusting screw (9) counterclockwise in order to decrease the relief valve setting.Note: One turn of adjusting screw (9) for the steering cylinder crossover relief valve equals 11000 kPa (1600 psi).
After adjusting screw (9) is turned for an adjustment, tighten locknut (8) to a torque of 20 3 N m (177
