Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Procedure
Drain the oil from the transmission into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove lower clips (1). Repeat for the upper clips.
Remove the blanking plate for the port (2). Discard the blanking plate for the port (2) .

Install 6EL0149 Tube Assembly (6) to the transmission. Refer to Illustration 2.

Install level gauge (25) to the transmission. Refer to Illustration 3.

Install lower clips (1) in the new position. Repeat for the upper clips. Refer to Illustration 4.
Fill the transmission with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for the machine that is being serviced.
Check the transmission oil level with the machine on a level surface and with the parking brake engaged.
Start the engine. Run the engine at low idle. Inspect fittings, adapters, and hoses for leaks.
Operate the transmission control in order to circulate the oil in the transmission.

(25) 124-0665 Liquid Level Gauge (37) This is the "FULL" oil level mark while the engine is stopped. (38) This is the "FULL" oil level mark while the engine is running.
While the engine is running, check the oil level in the 124-0665 Liquid Level Gauge (25). Maintain the oil level to the "FULL" oil level mark (38) .
While the engine is stopped, check the oil level in the 124-0665 Liquid Level Gauge (25). Maintain the oil level to the "FULL" oil level mark (37) .
