Removal Procedure
Start By:
Prepare the machine for disassembly and assembly procedures. For additional information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Preparation for Disassembly".
Release the oil pressure in the hydraulic system. For additional information, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
Open the hood. For additional information, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hood Tilt".
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.

Loosen two hose clamps (1). Disconnect the lower aftercooler hose (2) from the aftercooler.

Loosen two hose clamps (4). Disconnect upper aftercooler hose (3) from aftercooler (5) .

Remove four bolts (7) which connect upper tube (7) to the oil cooler.
Remove bolt (8) and the washer from the support bracket.
Repeat Step 4 on the other side of the aftercooler.

Remove four bolts (10) which connect lower tube (9) to the oil cooler.

Remove four bolts (11) which connect upper tube (6) to the main control valve.
Remove four bolts (14) which connect tube (13) to lower tube (9) .
Remove four bolts (12) which connect lower tube (9) to the main control valve.
Remove tubes (6) and (9) .

Remove two bolts (15) and move refrigerant dryer (16) away from the aftercooler.

Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting device to each lifting eye (17) on the aftercooler. Remove four bolts (18).
Repeat Step 12 on the opposite side of the aftercooler.
Use the hoist to remove the aftercooler core. The weight of the aftercooler core is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).
