Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect". Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Rear hood removed for photographic purposes
Disconnect hose assembly (2) and the clip.
Remove cover (1) and the gasket.
Illustration 2 g01322546
Disconnect harness assembly (6) and hose assembly (3). Remove two bolts (5) and modulating valve (4).
Illustration 3 g01322547
Remove connector (11) and O-ring seals (10) and (12). Remove nut (7), washer (8), and coil assembly (9) from valve assembly (13).
Illustration 4 g01322557
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Note: This component is being disassembled and displayed for CLEANING PURPOSES ONLY. Many of the internal parts are not available for this component. Care must be taken during the disassembly and assembly in order to prevent damage to unavailable parts.
Remove cartridge assembly (14), spool (16) and spring (17) from body (15).
Repeat Steps 3 through 5 for the remaining modulating valves. Installation Procedure
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Illustration 5 g01322557
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury. To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Install spring (17), spool (16) and cartridge assembly (14) into body (15). Tighten cartridge assembly (14) to a torque of 50 5 N m (37 4 lb ft).
Illustration 6 g01322547
Install coil (9), washer (8) and nut (7) to valve assembly (13). Tighten nut (7) to a torque of 13 1.5 N m (115 13 lb in). Install connector (11) and O-ring seals (10) and (12). Tighten connector (11) to a torque of 14 4 N m (10 3 lb ft).
Illustration 7 g01322546
Install modulating valve (4) and two bolts (5). Connect hose assembly (3), and tighten hose assembly (3) to a torque of 25 3 N m (18 2 lb ft). Connect harness assembly (6).
Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for the remaining modulating valves.
