Information:

Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine. To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.Lower the work tool to the ground and engage the parking brake.Stop the engine and remove the key.Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Required Tools
Part Number     Description     Quantity
8T-9208     Probe Assembly     1
8T-9190     Fluid Sampling Bottle     1    The hydraulic oil in this system is SAE 10. If the hydraulic oil becomes contaminated, premature component failure could result. Contaminated hydraulic oil can also contribute to overheating.Use the following procedure to sample the oil in the hydraulic system.
Start the engine and run the engine at high idle. Allow the oil temperature to reach the normal operating temperature.
Actuate all cylinders through a minimum of ten full cycles.
Lower the blade to the ground.
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.Reference: For additional information about the release of hydraulic oil pressure, refer to the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.
Make sure that the control lever is in the HOLD position.

View of the Back of the Hydraulic Tank through the Articulation Hitch (1) Main Control Valve. (2) Fluid sampling port. (3) Hydraulic tank.
Purge the hydraulic oil sampling port. Insert a 8T-9208 Probe Assembly into the hydraulic oil sampling port. Fluid sampling valve (2) is located on the tube assembly that is attached to the back side of the hydraulic tank near the articulation hitch. The tube assembly is a component of the return line from the main control valve.Note: Use approximately 150 mm (6 inch) length of tube on the end of the probe. Drain approximately 100 mL (4 fl oz) of oil into a container for disposal. This will clean out the sampling port so that a good oil sample may be obtained.
Start the engine and allow the engine to run at low idle.Note: Do not operate the hydraulic controls.
Use a clean tube to draw a 50 mL (2 fl oz) oil sample from fluid sampling valve (2). Use an 8T-9190 Fluid Sampling Bottle in order to take the hydraulic oil sample.
The recommended level of cleanliness for the hydraulic system is ISO Code 18/15. See Table 2 for the maximum allowable particle count.
