1. Ensure the machine is parked for service. Refer to "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" in the Hydraulic and Steering System Troubleshooting Manual.
2. Remove the Centershift Lock. Refer to the Machine Systems Disassembly and Assembly manual, "Centershift Lock-Remove".
Note: Only the centershift lock needs to be removed. Do not remove the centershift lock bar.
3. Disassemble the centershift lock to the point that the front of the 297-6979 Cylinder can be accessed for machining the face. Refer to Machine Systems Disassembly and Assembly, 'Centershift Lock ? Disassemble'.

4. Machine the face of the 297-6979 Cylinder (1) to the following dimensions. Refer to image 1.4.1. Ensure the machining is centered on the cylinder housing in relation to the existing bore for the pin. A (Diameter): 81.0 +/- 0.2 mm. B (Depth): 5.5 +/- 0.5 mm. The radius should be machined to: C/R (chamfer radius) 0.8 +/- 0.2 mm.
5. Ensure the cylinder is properly cleaned after the machining is completed.
6. Assemble the centershift lock. Be sure to use a new set of seals for the assembly. The seals are: 2H-3931, 4T-8054, 9D-6584, and 167-2307. Refer to Machine Systems Disassembly and Assembly, 'Centershift Lock-Assemble'.
7. Install one (1) 384-7727 Spacer to the face of the centershift lock.
8. Install a new 9D-3311 Bushing in the frame.
9. Install the centershift lock to the machine. Refer to Machine Systems Disassembly and Assembly, 'Centershift Lock-Install'.
10. Install a new 3E-3636 Ball Switch. Refer to Specifications, 'Ball Switch (Centershift Indicator)' for proper shimming dimensions. Be sure to use a new 3J-1907 O-ring when installing the new switch.
11. Ensure the hydraulic oil level is maintained for the machine. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level-Check".
