The implement and pilot/brake pump consists of two gear pumps that are mounted in tandem. The two sections of the pump use common inlet (1). Pilot/brake pump (11) is mounted to implement pump (7). The implement pump supplies high pressure oil to the implement system. The pilot oil pump supplies pilot oil for the steering system, the braking system, and the implement system. Coupler (9) connects the drive gear for the implement pump (8) to the drive gear for the pilot/brake pump (10).

A gear pump carries oil from inlet port (A) to outlet port (B) in the spaces between the gear teeth.Drive shaft (4) turns drive gears (8) and (10). Idler gears (5) and (6) mesh with drive gears (8) and (10) as the gears rotate.When the gear teeth separate, a partial vacuum is formed. Oil fills the spaces between the teeth in inlet port (A). The gears carry oil around the circumference of the pump to outlet port (B). Oil is forced out of the spaces between the gear teeth as the gears mesh on the outlet port (B).Oil will not return to inlet port (A) because the gears mesh in order to fill the spaces between the gear teeth.
