ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect the wheel skidders for chains and tire size. Document the location of the crack. Refer to the Service Manual and Parts Book as required.
When there is a failure of one axle shaft, insure that both of the axle shafts in that axle arrangement are the new 3274442/">327-4442 Axle Shafts before returning the machine to service.
Drain the oil from the axle and remove the axle from the machine. Follow the axle housing assembly and disassembly procedure to replace the existing axle shafts and related parts with the new axle shafts and related parts.

This is a 32 hour job to replace both axle shafts. If one axle shaft is cracked then the other axle shaft is considered failed and needs to be replaced.
Inspect the machine for usage of chains and tire size. In the claim story write whether the machine has chains and what the tire size was.
This service letter program does not cover the axle shaft replacement on machines that are fitted with chains.
This service letter program does not cover the axle shaft replacement of machines that are fitted with tires larger than 30.5 x 32.
