Information:
The ECM monitors the temperature at the intake of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The ECM activates the applicable code when the conditions are met.Note: Refer to Troubleshooting, "Service Tool Features" for information about service features.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes
J1939 Code CDL Code Code Description
(code descriptions may vary) Comments
3242-18 E1014 (2) Low DPF #1 Intake Temperature The Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD) has ignited and the ECM has detected Low DPF inlet temperature.
Active regeneration is immediately disabled. Engine power is derated. The code is logged. The code remains active until electrical power to the ECM is cycled. The following conditions can cause this code:
The exhaust piping between the outlet of the ARD and the intake of the DPF is disconnected and/or the DPF Inlet Temperature sensor has failed.

Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Inspect the Exhaust Piping
A. Carefully Inspect the exhaust piping between the outlet of the ARD and the intake of the DPF. Look for the following problems:
1. Missing piping, cracked piping, or disconnected piping
2. Broken clamps or missing clamps
Damaged or Missing Piping
Result: The piping is not damaged or missing.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The piping is damaged or missing.
Repair: Make the necessary repairs. Proceed to Test Step 2.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
2. Inspect the DPF Inlet Temperature Sensor and Wiring
A. Carefully inspect DPF Inlet temperature sensor and wiring (3) for damage.
Damaged Wiring or Sensor
Result: The wiring and sensor are not damaged.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The wiring and sensor are damaged.
Repair: Make the necessary repairs. Proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Perform an "ARD Ignition Test"
A. Connect to the electronic service tool.
B. Select the Diagnostics tab.
C. Select the Diagnostic Tests tab.
D. Select the "ARD Ignition Test" tab.
The "ARD Ignition Test" cannot be performed if the DPF soot loading is above 80%. When the DPF soot loading is above 80%, the "Manual DPF Regeneration" must be performed using the electronic service tool.
Test
Result: The "ARD Ignition Test" was successful.
Return the engine to service.
Result: The "ARD Ignition Test" was not successful.
Repair: Replace the DPF inlet temperature sensor. Repeat the "ARD Ignition Test".
If the "ARD Ignition Test" was successful, return the engine to service.
If the "ARD Ignition Test" was not successful, troubleshoot the generated codes.
