The PL1000E ECM contains a "Rolling Reset" function. The Rolling Reset function resets the ECM to default values. This function protects the ECM from repetitive power cycles or from a corrupted Parameter Configuraion List (PCL) file. The PCL file contains the configuration for the ECM. The PCL file is stored in the memory on the ECM.A Rolling Reset can occur under the following circumstances:
Five power cycles occur within sixty seconds which removes the PCL file from memory.
Six power cycles occur within sixty seconds which resets the configuration of the ECM to the default values.
A corrupted PCL file is loaded onto the ECM.Solution
Technicians should observe the following:
During maintenance, ensure that power is removed to the PL1000E ECM in order to prevent cycling the power to the ECM.
Use the latest version of the Cat Electronics Technician service tool and Communications Toolkit when a PCL file is created.
