This diagnostic code is recorded when data link communication with the VIMSTM electronic control module (ECM) has been broken for more than 5 seconds.Test Step 1. VERIFY THAT THE BROADCAST SYSTEM IS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY
Verify that the broadcast system (transmitter) is operating correctly.Expected Result:The broadcast system (transmitter) is operating correctly.Results:
OK - The broadcast system (transmitter) is operating correctly. Go to Step 2.
NOT OK - The broadcast system (transmitter) is not operating correctly.Repair: Repair the broadcast (transmitter) system.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR A HARNESS OPEN
Turn OFF the key start and disconnect switches.
Disconnect:
Connector J2 from the VIMS ECM.
The RS-232 broadcast port from the broadcast system.
Measure the resistance between the following:
RS-232 broadcast port contact 2 and VIMS ECM contact J2-66 (Wire E972-BU)
RS-232 broadcast port contact 3 and VIMS ECM contact J2-33 (Wire 876-OR)
RS-232 broadcast port contact 4 and VIMS ECM contact J2-32 (Wire 875-BU)Expected Result:All resistance is < 5.0 Ω.Results:
OK - All resistance is < 5.0 Ω Go to Step 3.
NOT OK - All resistance is ≥ 5000 Ω. The harness has failed.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR A SHORT TO GROUNDThe harness remains disconnected from the VIMS ECM and the broadcast system.
Measure the resistance between frame ground and the following:
RS-232 broadcast port contact 2 (Wire E972-BU)
S-232 broadcast port contact 3 (Wire 876-OR)
RS-232 broadcast port contact 4 (Wire 875-BU)Expected Result:All resistance is ≥ 5000 Ω.Results:
OK - All resistance is ≥ 5000 Ω. The harness is OK. The VIMS ECM may have failed.Repair: Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again.If the cause of the failure is not found, contact your Technical Communicator.If ECM replacement is required, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - All resistance is < 5000 Ω. The harness has failed.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOP
