Purge the air from the air tanks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Tanks (Brake) - Purge".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Note: For the repair kits, refer to Parts Manual, SEBP2503.
Drain the jacket water cooling system on the right side. The jacket water cooling system has a capacity of 360 L (95.1 US gal).
In order to prevent possible personal injury, release the air pressure from the air tank before disconnecting any components of the air system.

Mark all the hoses and the tubes for installation purposes.
Disconnect four hoses (1), (3), and (4) from air compressor (5). Cap all the openings.
Disconnect tube (2) from air compressor (5). Cap all the openings.
Disconnect hose (9) from air compressor (5). Cap all the openings.
Disconnect two tubes (6) and (8) from air compressor (5). Cap all the openings.
Attach Tool (A), a lifting sling, and a suitable lifting device. Remove three bolts (7) and the three washers. Remove air compressor (5) and the gasket from the engine. Air compressor (5) weighs 24 kg (52.9 lb).
