Ensure that all adjustments and repairs that are carried out to the fuel system are performed by authorized personnel that have the correct training.Before beginning ANY work on the fuel system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information and High Pressure Fuel Lines" for safety information. Refer to System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Cleanliness of Fuel System Components" for detailed information on the standards of cleanliness that must be observed during ALL work on the fuel system.
Note: Put identification on all hose assemblies, wires, and tube assemblies for installation purposes. Install a cap or plug on all hose assemblies and tube assemblies in order to prevent foreign material from entering the system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The engine can start automatically. Ensure that the power supply is isolated before any service or repairs is performed.
Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.

Using Tooling (A) to remove fuel filter (8). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Secondary Filter (Water Separator) Element - Replace".
Disconnect harness assembly (1) from pressure sensor (2).
Remove bolts (5) from the clips for tube assembly (6).
Remove tube assembly (6) from secondary fuel filter base (9) and the connection for the fuel priming pump.
Use Tooling (A) to caps tube assembly (6).
Remove O-ring seals (4) (not shown) and O-ring seals (7) (not shown).
Use Tooling (A) to caps secondary fuel filter base (9) and the connection for the fuel priming pump.
Loosen the tube nut for tube assembly (11).
Remove bolts (3) from secondary fuel filter base (9). Support the weight of the secondary fuel filter base as the bolts are removed. Remove secondary fuel filter base (9) from bracket (12).
Remove O-ring seals (10) (not shown) secondary fuel filter base (9).
Use Tooling (A) to caps secondary fuel filter base (9) and tube assembly (11).

If necessary, follow Step 2.d through Step 2.c in order to disassemble secondary fuel filter base (9).
Remove outlet fuel pressure sensor (21). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Pressure Sensor (Standard Fuel System) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Make temporary marks on elbow connection (22). Loosen lock nut (23) and remove the elbow connection from fuel filter head (9). Remove O-ring seal (24) (not shown).
Make temporary marks on elbow connection (20). Loosen lock nut (19) and remove the elbow connection from fuel filter head (9). Remove sealing washer (18) (not shown).
Remove connection (25) and remove O-ring seal (26) (not shown).
Remove connection (28) and remove O-ring seal (27) (not shown). Installation Procedure
Ensure that the secondary fuel filter base is clean and free from damage. If necessary, replace the complete secondary fuel filter base and filter assembly.
