Bolt tightening sequence
Remove the cylinder head bolts in the reverse sequence that is shown in Illustration 1. A 14 mm extended socket is required in order to remove the bolts which are numbered 12 through 15. Remove the cylinder head from the engine.
Clean the cylinder head thoroughly. Make sure that the contact surfaces of the cylinder head and the cylinder block are clean, smooth and flat.
Inspect the bottom surface of the cylinder head for pitting, corrosion, and cracks. Inspect the area around the valve seat inserts and the holes for the fuel injection nozzles.

Put the cylinder head (1) on the 8S-6691 Cylinder Head Stand Set (2) .

Positions for measuring the flatness of the cylinder headTypical example
Measure the cylinder head for flatness. Measure the flatness with a straight edge (3) and with a feeler gauge (4) .
Measure the cylinder head from point (A) to the opposite end.
Measure the cylinder head from point (B) to the opposite end.
Measure the cylinder head from point (C) to the opposite end.Refer to the Specifications, "Cylinder Head" for the requirements of flatness.
