3208 ( 90N, 40S, 75V, 79V1408, 32Y)Two new crankshafts that have reground undersize bearing journals, are available for use in the above engines. The new crankshafts are as follows: 0R1210, 0.508 (.020") undersize, and 0R1211 1.270 (.050") undersize. Two different types of undersize bearings for the connecting rods, and two different front main bearings are available for use with these crankshafts.
Each type of connecting rod bearing is used with a specific type of connecting rod. Each type of front main bearing is used with a specific type of cylinder block. Use the procedure given in this instruction to find out which connecting rod bearings and front main bearing are needed for the engine reconditioning.
1 Look at the bore in the cylinder block that is for the front main bearing. Check the location of the bearing tab, either location (A), to the right of center, or location (B), in the center. Install the correct undersize front main bearing in the bore. Install the remainder of the bearings needed. Make reference to the Parts Book or the NPR (Numerical Parts Record) for the correct main bearings to install. 2 Look at the bearing tab location in the connecting rod and the connecting rod cap. Some bearing tabs will look like those shown at location (C), while others will look like what is shown at location (D). Make reference to the Parts Book or the NPR to find the correct undersize bearing to install for the connecting rods.3 For crankshaft gear and wear sleeve removal and installation, make reference to the Service Manual.
