Each cylinder is controlled by control valve (15) and (18) with two solenoids. One solenoid extends the cylinder and one solenoid retracts the cylinder. The solenoids are controlled by the width control circuits and enable hydraulic flow to extend or retract the extender.When a screed width switch is in the HOLD position, both solenoids on screed width control valve (15) or (18) are de energized and the valve remains in the hold position. In this position, both sides of the cylinder are blocked by the pilot opened check valves in the valve assembly so that the cylinder is locked in position. Fluid flow from auxiliary system (16) is blocked by the control valve. The return line of the control valve assembly is connected to the tank return line on tractor (17).

The solenoid opens passages in the left screed width control valve (15), and fluid from auxiliary system (16) is allowed to flow to the head end of left screed width cylinder (11). Pressure in the pilot line opens the check valve in the return side. The cylinder extends until the cylinder is fully extended or until the switch is released. As the cylinder extends, the paving width of the screed increases.When the right screed width switch is in the RETRACT position, current is directed to the right extender retract solenoid. The solenoid opens passages in the right screed width control valve (18), and fluid from auxiliary system (16) is allowed to flow to the rod end of right screed width cylinder (14). Pressure in the pilot line opens the check valve in the return side. The cylinder retracts until the cylinder is fully retracted or until the switch is released. As the cylinder retracts, the paving width of the screed decreases.Vibratory Control
