Information:
Do not fill the fuel filter with fuel before installing it. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Close the fuel supply valve at the tank before servicing the filter. Open the valve after filter servicing is completed.Cleaning Primary Filter
Use all cleaning solutions with care.
1. Loosen the bolt (1) on the filter cover and lower the filter case (3).2. Remove the element (2). Wash the cover and element in clean, nonflammable solvent.3. Reinstall the element into the case.4. Install the element and case onto the cover.5. Tighten the bolt.Changing Secondary Filter
1. Unscrew filter element. Throw away the used element.2. Wipe the sealing surface of the filter element mounting base. Make certain all of the used element gasket is cleaned from the filter base. 3. Coat the gasket of the new element with clean diesel fuel.
Do not fill the fuel filter with fuel before installing it. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
4. Install the filter by hand. When the gasket contacts the base, tighten 3/4 turn more. There are rotation marks 90° apart on the filter. Use these as a guide for proper tightening.5. Start the engine and check for leaks. If the engine will not start, prime the fuel system.Priming the Fuel System
Filters and Pump Housing
With Hand Priming Pump (If Equipped)1. Move the governor lever to the SHUT-OFF position.2. Unscrew the hand priming pump plunger until it can be pulled out by hand.3. Move the plunger in and out until a resistance is felt.4. Push the plunger in and tighten by hand.5. Start the engine and check for leaks.Without Hand Priming Pump1. When the priming pump is not used, the position of fuel line and plug are reversed. Some of the fuel in the manifold is sent back through the anti-siphon block and through the return line to the fuel tank to remove air from the system after the fuel filter is changed.Orifices in the anti-siphon block control the amount of fuel that goes back to the fuel tank.2. If the engine does not start, the injection pumps and high pressure lines must be primed.Injection Pumps and Lines
The injection pumps and high pressure lines must be primed if the engine will not start or runs rough. Each injection pump has a reverse flow check valve. Use the following procedure to prime the injection pumps and lines.
The fuel injection lines, adapters and/or nozzles can be permanently damaged by twisting if only one wrench is used to loosen or tighten the fuel line nuts. Use one wrench to hold the nozzle and/or adapter, and another to loosen the nut.
1. Loosen each of the fuel line nuts at the cylinder head end.2. Crank the engine with the starting motor until fuel flows, free of air bubbles, from each of the injection lines. Stop cranking the engine.
Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow 2 minutes for the starter to cool before cranking again.
3. Tighten each of the fuel line nuts to a torque
