Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the power train guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Guard (Transmission) - Remove and Install".

Open the platform doors behind the cab. Attach a suitable lifting device to rear drive shaft (1) through the opening.
Remove bolts (3) that fasten rear drive shaft (1) to yoke (2).
Remove bolts (4) that fasten rear drive shaft (1) to yoke (5).
Slide yoke (2) toward the rear axle assembly in order to gain clearance for the removal of rear drive shaft (1).

Use the suitable lifting device to lower rear drive shaft (1) to the ground. The weight of the rear drive shaft is approximately 98 kg (216 lb). Installation Procedure
When the rear drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the rear axle assembly yoke. The rear drive shaft must be installed in phase with the center and front drive shafts. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint groups, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned.

Attach a suitable lifting device to rear drive shaft (1).

Raise the rear drive shaft into position for installation. The weight of the rear drive shaft is approximately 98 kg (216 lb).
Install new bolts (4) and (3) and tighten the bolts to a torque of 530 70 N m (395 50 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 5 for the correct tightening sequence.
Remove the lifting device from the rear drive shaft. Close the platform doors.
Lubricate the rear drive shaft. For the correct procedure, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine. End By:
