Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Typical example
Loosen drain (6). Drain fuel filter (5) in a suitable container. If fuel filter (5) does not have drain (6), use the following steps before the fuel filter is removed:
Remove Cap (1) .
Remove the nylon insert.
Support fuel filter (5) and turn ring (4) clockwise.
Remove fuel filter (5) .
Remove all fuel lines (3). Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.
Remove bolts (2). Remove fuel filter base.Installation Procedure

Typical example
Position the fuel filter base and install bolts (2) .
Install all fuel lines (3) .
Install fuel filter (5) .
Prime the fuel system in order to remove air. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" topic for more information.
