Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the cooling system until the level of the coolant is below the water temperature regulator housing.

Disconnect hose assembly (1) and hose assembly (5) from water temperature regulator housing (6).
Disconnect tube assembly (2) from water temperature regulator housing (6). Remove the O-ring seal from the tube assembly.
Remove tube assembly (3) from the water temperature regulator housing.
Remove bolts (4). Remove water temperature regulator housing (6). Remove gasket (7).
If necessary, remove bolts (8) and remove outlet elbow (9) from the water temperature regulator housing. Remove the gasket from the outlet elbow.

Remove water temperature regulator (14). Remove lip seal (15) from water temperature regulator housing (6).
Remove bolts (10). Remove cover (11) and gasket (12). Remove vent assembly (13) from the water temperature regulator housing. Installation Procedure

Install vent assembly (13) in water temperature regulator housing (6). Position gasket (12) and cover (11). Install bolts (10).
Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (15) into water temperature regulator housing (6).
If the water temperature regulator is installed incorrectly, it will cause the engine to overheat.
Install water temperature regulators (14).

Position gasket (7) and water temperature regulator housing (6). Install bolts (4).
Position the gasket and outlet elbow (9) and install bolts (8).
Install tube assembly (3).
Connect hose assembly (1) and hose assembly (5).
Install the O-ring seal on tube assembly (2). lubricate the O-ring seal with Tooling (B). Install tube assembly (2).
Fill the cooling with coolant to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
