Parts Needed
When Replacing a transfer case gear from a transmission that has a 6P-3728 Bearing Cage , with a new 8P-6294 Transfer Gear Case , the following additional new parts will be needed. The reason is that the bore for the straight roller bearing cage is now larger than before.

2.0 0.5 mm (0.08 0.02 inch)    The 9U-9527 Shaft is shown as being optional in table 2 because the former 6P-3848 Shaft can be reworked to accommodate the new bearing.A majority of the 8P-6294 Transfer Case assemblies that were bored for the former 6P-3728 Bearing Cage can be reworked to accommodate the new 9U-9528 Bearing Cage. Transfer Case Assemblies with a 8P-6296 Cage at engineering change level 5 and lower cannot be bored to accommodate the new 9U-9528 Bearing Cage .To determine the change level, find the cast-in part number on the case beneath the mounting pad for the suction screen housing. The change level will be indicated by a one or two-digit number beneath the part number, with a dash before and after the digit. 8P-6296 Transfer Cases change level 6 and above can be reworked according to the following procedure.

Case Rework Procedure
Remove the transmission and transfer case from the machine. Refer to the Service Manual.
Disassemble the output transfer gear group. Refer to the Service Manual.
Clean the joint area between the 8P-6297 Gear Housing Cover and the 8P-6296 Transfer Gear Case .
Reassemble the 8P-6294 Case As with all dowels and bolts. Case is now ready to be machined.

Using a boring tool, locate and bore out the case assembly to location and diameter shown in Illustration 6. Chamfer the enlarged bore as shown. Clean the reworked case thoroughly.
Assemble the output shaft and transfer gear case using new cage (C), seal (D), race and roller (E), race (F) and ring (G) .
Assemble the transmission and transfer case.
Install the transmission and transfer case in the machine. Refer to the Service Manual.
