Connections of the left steering pump solenoid
This diagnostic code is associated with the left steering pump solenoid. The circuit is connected to a PWM driver of the Power Train ECM. The FMI 03 means the ECM has determined that voltage is present in the circuit when no voltage should be present. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to another voltage source.
The ECM has failed. An ECM failure is unlikely.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0727 - FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. Check the energize circuit of the solenoid for a short
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the solenoid.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from contact J1-67 wire (F788-PU(Purple)) to all of the J1 and J2 contacts that are used on the ECM connectors. Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
YES - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The measurement is not indicating that there is a short circuit in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - A resistance measurement is less than 5000 ohms.Repair: There is a short circuit or a bad connection in the machine harness. The problem is between wire (F788-PU(Purple)) and the wire with the low resistance measurement. Refer to Electrical System Schematic, KENR8916. Examine all of the connectors that are in the circuit. Ensure that the connections are clean and secure. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. Check the operation of the ECMThe disconnect switch and the key start switch remain in the OFF position. The machine harness connectors for the solenoid and the ECM remain disconnected.
At the J1machine harness connector for the ECM, use a wire removal tool in order to remove wire (F788-PU(Purple)) and the socket at contact J1-67 from the harness connector.
Reconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Observe the status of the FMI 03 diagnostic code. Expected Result:The FMI 03 diagnostic
