Operating Technique
Follow these basic instructions whenever you are operating the machine:
Make sure that the bucket that is being used is appropriate for the work that is being performed.
When you are working in hard material, use the bucket teeth or bolt-on cutting edges.
For best stability and best visibility, carry a loaded bucket low to the ground.
Travel in reverse when you carry a load down a steep incline. Travel forward when you go uphill.
To maintain maximum traction, avoid excessive downward pressure on the bucket during loading.
Level the work area during waiting periods.Bulldozing
Illustration 1 g00731783
Keep the bottom of the bucket parallel to the ground when you are bulldozing.Dumping
Dump the bucket when the wind is moving toward the front of the machine. This will help to keep dust away from the engine. This will also help to maintain visibility. For more gradual dumping, move the tilt control lever back and forth between the DUMP position and the HOLD position until the bucket is empty. To achieve the maximum dumping angle, allow the bucket to strike the bucket stops.
Striking the stops unnecessarily and repetitively can result in accelerated wear and high maintenance cost of the loader linkage.
Bucket Loading from a Stockpile
Illustration 2 g00540459
Position the bucket parallel to the ground so that the bucket barely skims the ground.
Drive the bucket straight into the pile.
Move the lift control lever to the RAISE detent position as forward movement slows. Return the lift control lever to the HOLD position for additional crowding power.
When the bucket is loaded, move the tilt control lever to the TILT BACK position.
Raise the bucket high in order to pass over the pile of material.
Shift the transmission into REVERSE.
Move the lift control lever to the LOWER position. Carry the loaded bucket low to the ground as you travel to the dump area.
When you reach the dump area, move the lift control lever to the RAISE detent position. The lift kickout will automatically return the lift control lever to the HOLD position.Bucket Loading Hauling Units
Illustration 3 g00540460
To reduce the travel distance and the amount of turning, position the hauling unit at an angle to the material that is being loaded. The travel distance should be long enough so that the bucket can reach the lift kickout height without needing to slow down the machine.
Make sure that the bucket is high enough to pass over the top of the hauling unit. The machine should be positioned perpendicular to the hauling unit.
Dump the load in the center of the hauling unit. If the length of the hauling unit is two times the length of the bucket, load the material into the hauling unit from the front to the rear.
To shake any sticky material from the bucket, move the tilt control lever back and forth between the DUMP position and the HOLD position. To avoid accelerated wear to the linkage, allow the tilt arms to strike the bucket stops as few times as possible.
Move the tilt control lever to the TILT BACK detent position.
Make sure that the hauling unit is not under the bucket.
