Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Open the left side access door and turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Place a tray under the fuel filter assembly in order to catch any fuel that might spill.
Disconnect hose assemblies (2) .
Use Tooling (A) in order to remove fuel filter (3) .
Remove the bolts and filter base (1) .Installation Procedure

Install filter base (1) and the bolts.
Install fuel filter (3) to filter base (1). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
Connect hose assemblies (2) .
Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position and close the left side access door.
