Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove". Type 1
The aftercooler that is shown in Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove "Type 1"" is disassembled as the aftercooler is removed from the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove".Type 2
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Remove bolts (2) and cover (1) from aftercooler housing (3).

Remove gasket (4).

Remove adapter (7) and adapter (6). Remove O-ring seal (5) from the aftercooler housing. Repeat this procedure for the removal of adapter assembly (8).

Remove aftercooler core (9) from aftercooler housing (3).
