Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the machine in order to warm the oil.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the implement to the ground and apply slight downward pressure. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

The transmission drain plug is located on the bottom of the transmission case at the center of the machine. Remove the transmission drain plug. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Change the transmission oil filter.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil Filter - Replace" for the correct procedure.
Clean the transmission magnetic screen.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Magnetic Screen - Clean" for the correct procedure.
Clean the transmission drain plug and install the transmission drain plug.

Open the access door in the platform behind the cab.
Remove transmission oil filler cap (2). Fill the transmission with oil.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the proper type of oil and for the proper amount of oil.
Clean the transmission oil filler cap and install the transmission oil filler cap.
Remove transmission breather (3). Wash the breather in a clean nonflammable solvent. Allow the breather to dry or use air pressure to dry the breather. Install the transmission breather.
Remove the transfer gear housing breather. Wash the breather in a clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the breather to dry or use air pressure to dry the breather. Install the transfer gear housing breather.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Inspect the transmission for leaks.
Slowly operate the STIC steering control in order to circulate the oil.
Move the STIC transmission direction control switch to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Inspect the entire transmission system for leaks.
Check the oil level on dipstick (1) .Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Transmission Oil Level - Check" for the correct procedure.
Stop the engine.
