Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Park the machine on a flat, level surface. Lower the bucket to the ground. Chock the wheels in order to keep the machine from rolling when the drive shaft is removed.
Release the parking brake in order to turn the center drive shaft.
Put alignment marks on all components for installation purposes.

Remove bolts (1) and straps (2). Disconnect the center drive shaft from the transfer gear case.

Remove bolts (4) and straps (5). Disconnect the center drive shaft from the parking brake.
Remove the center drive shaft (3) from the machine.Installation Procedure
When the center drive shaft is installed, it must be installed in phase with the front and rear drive shafts. Serious component damage could occur. Be certain that all the joint group, all the yokes, and all the lubricating fittings are aligned.

Carefully install center drive shaft (3) .
Install bolts (4) and straps (5). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 11 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 4 for the correct tightening sequence.

Install bolts (1) and straps (2). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 11 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 4 for the correct tightening sequence.
Lubricate the center drive shaft. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6627, "966F Series II Wheel Loader" for the correct procedure.End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
