Incidents of lost configuration data have been reported from the field. Engineering has reproduced the failure mode in the lab and engineering has determined that the lost configuration data could occur on certain Electronic Control Modules (ECM). The ECM is most susceptible when engine cranking is attempted with a discharged machine battery. When the loss of data occurs, the machine may appear to lose configuration parameters. Additionally, the machine may lose some functionality.

( 1 ) The first three digits of the ECM serial number represent the day of the year. The fourth digit of the ECM serial number is the last digit of the year 200x.Solution
When loss of the configuration parameters is identified, do not replace the machine ECM. Flash the machine ECM with the latest machine software. Configure the lost configuration parameters.
