Any engine that has a history from the test cell in the TMI system is covered. This includes all engines that were built in Mossvile, Greenville, Lafayette, and Gosselies. In addition, all Caterpillar 3046, 3064, 3066 Engines in Caterpillar equipment that is for off-highway applications are covered. Earlier engines that were built in Sagami are covered on a limited basis. All engines that were built in Sagami after October 2000 are covered.Products Which Are Not Covered
Engines that do not have Caterpillar serial numbers are not covered. Many engines that were built Sagami are not covered. Engines that are built by Perkins for use in Caterpillar machines are not currently covered, but those engines will eventually be covered.Information That Is Provided By The System
The system provides the status of emission certification of the engine that was shipped from Caterpillar. The information that is provided does not guarantee that the engine is being used in that engine's certified application. The information that is provided does not guarantee that any certification label is currently present, legible, or visible on the engine.The primary focus of the program is the nonroad certification by the US EPA and the European Union. However, the program also covers engines that are in On-Highway applications, Marine (IMO) applications, and Stationary applications. The system will also show if an engine is "EXEMPT" in the nonroad regulations in the US or Europe. For engines with a history from the test cell, the date of manufacture and the gross power is also provided.Alternate Procedure To Get The Status Of The Emission Certification Of An Engine
If the correct serial number has been entered but the system does not provide a response, send an e-mail to the following address:enginecertification
Include the engine serial number in the text of the e-mail. The request will be processed manually.Note: The owner of the engine is ultimately responsible for making sure that the emission certification film is present, legible, and visible before importing or selling the machine in a regulated region of the world.Definition Of Terms
EPA - This term refers to the US Environmental Protection Agency.EU - European UnionEXEMPT - This is a term that describes an engine that has a GROSS POWER and a BUILD DATE that are not covered by the applicable regulation. For example, "NONROAD - EU EXEMPT" means that the engines' GROSS POWER and BUILD DATE are not covered by the nonroad regulations in the EU. This engine would be legal for use in the EU, but this engine would not be certified.STATIONARY - This is any internal combustion engine that remains in one location for a minimum of 12 months in a row.
