Schematic of the "Wiper Control" Module
This diagnostic code is associated with the "Wiper Control" Module. The FMI 06 diagnostic code means that the ECM has detected that the current for the module is above normal. Conditions that could cause this diagnostic code to be activated are listed below:
The energize circuit of the module is shorted to a ground source.
The control module has failed.
The switch panel has failed.
The ECM has failed. A failure of the Machine ECM is unlikely. Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. Clear any created diagnostic codes after the original diagnostic code has been corrected.System Response:A Level 1 warning will be generated.Test Step 1. CHECK THE CONTROL MODULE
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code.
Disconnect the wiper module from the machine harness. Expected Result:The active CID 0287 FMI 06 diagnostic code changes to a CID 0287 FMI 05 diagnostic code when the module is disconnected. Results:
YES - The active CID 0287 FMI 06 diagnostic code changes to a CID 0287 FMI 05 diagnostic code when the relay module is disconnected. The circuit for the relay module in the machine harness is correct.Repair: The relay module has failed. Temporarily connect a new relay module to the harness. Do not install the relay module. Verify that the replacement relay module has cleared the diagnostic code. If the code is no longer active, permanently install the new relay module. Verify that there are no active diagnostic codes for the relay module. Clear any logged diagnostic codes.STOP
NO - The CID 0287 FMI 06 diagnostic code remains active. Disconnecting the wiper module did not change the status of the active diagnostic code. The relay module is not the cause of the problem. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE WIPER MODULE FOR A SHORT TO GROUNDThe relay module remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors C1, C13, and C2 from the switch panel.
At the connectors of the switch panel, measure the resistance from the signal contact C13-06 (wire A586-OR(Orange)) to frame ground.
While observing the multimeter resistance measurements, wiggle the machine harness connectors for the switch panel and the relay module. Gently pull on the wires and gently move the wires around. Expected Result:
