Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Check the condition of all seals and of all components. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Install the O-ring seals on plugs (34). Check the condition of the seals. If the seals are worn or damaged, use new seals for replacement.
Put clean oil on the seals. Install plugs (34) in the housing.
Install spiral rings (33) in order to hold the plugs.

Use the following steps to assemble valve assemblies (20) and (25).
Put clean oil on all the parts of the valves.
Install spring (32), piston (31) and slug (30) on valve (29).
Install spring (28) and washer (27) on valve (29). Install retaining ring (26).

Install valve assembly (25).
Install the ring on plunger (21).
Install washer (24), spring (23), bushing (22) and plunger (21).
Install valve assembly (20).
Install the ring on plunger (16).
Install washer (19), spring (18), bushing (17) and plunger (16).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Push the valve assembly (20) and (25) into housing (14) until bolt (15) and the washer can be installed.
Tighten bolt (15).

Use Tooling (A) in order to install four needle bearings (12). Note: Install the needle bearings until the needle bearings are flush with the counterbores in the housing.
Use Tooling (A) in order to install the two seals that are in the housing. Put clean oil on the lip of the seals. Note: Install the seals with the lip toward the inside of the housing. The seals must make contact with the bottom of the counterbores in the housing.

Slide shaft (9) through the seal in the rear hole that is in the housing. Install washer (11) and lever (10).
Use Tooling (A) to install the plug in the end of the housing. Note: The plug will put shaft (9) in the correct position.
Install the key in shaft (9).
Slide lever (10) over the key. Install bolt (8). Install the ring on shaft (9).

Slide shaft (4) through the plug hole in the housing. As the shaft is put in position, install the washer and lever (7).
Install key (6) that is for lever (7) in shaft (4).
Install ring (5) on shaft (4).
Put shaft (4) in position and use Tooling (A) to install the plug in the end of the housing.

Install bolt (3) that holds lever (7) in position.
Put the gasket in position on the housing. Refer to Illustration 4.

Put the two housings together and install five bolts (2).
Install O-ring seals (1). End By:
Install the steering clutch hydraulic control valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Clutch Hydraulic Control Valve - Install".
