Which Generate This Code:This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM for the Product Link sees system voltage as below 32 VDC.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SYSTEM VOLTAGE AT THE PRODUCT LINK
Start the engine.
Operate the engine at a high idle for 5 to10 minutes.
Measure the voltage between "Unswitched Power" pin 52 and "Ground" pin 65. Expected Result:Voltage is 13 to 15 VDC for a 12 VDC system.Voltage is 27 to 29 VDC for a 24 VDC system. Results:
OK - Voltage is correct. Repair: Clear the diagnostic code and check for another occurrence of the diagnostic code.STOP
NOT OK - The voltage is incorrect. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE CHARGING SYSTEM
Run the engine at high idle for 5 to 10 minutes.
Measure the voltage at the battery posts.Expected Result:Voltage is 13 to 15 VDC for a 12 VDC system.Voltage is 27 to 29 VDC for a 24 VDC system. Results:
OK - The voltage is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The voltage is incorrect.Repair: Repair the charging system.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE
Turn the keyswitch off.
Measure the voltage at the battery posts.Expected Result:Voltage is 13 to 15 VDC for a 12 VDC system.Voltage is 27 to 29 VDC for a 24 VDC system. Results:
OK - The voltage is correct.Repair: The ECM for the Product Link may have failed. Contact your Caterpillar Technical Communicator (TC). If ECM replacement is required, see Systems operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - The voltage is incorrect.Repair: See Special Instruction, REHS0354, "Charging System Troubleshooting". STOP
