The 3500 Family Of EnginesThe new 101-3281 Connecting Rod Assembly contains a series of numbers printed on the rod and cap. A unique number is assigned to each connecting rod assembly. This same number is printed on both the rod and cap. The printing is on the side of the cap that is opposite of pin (2). See the illustration. Formerly, the connecting rod and cap were identified by three digit numbers that were vibro etched into the rod.
In addition, connecting rods used in factory built engines will have the cylinder number etched on the rod and cap, on the same side as the identification numbers.
The new method of identification is being used to provide a more legible number. Also, a number is less likely to be repeated.
