KIT-GASKET 6V6429 - Caterpillar

For instructions on troubleshooting the timing control, refer to Special Instruction, REHS0880, "Installation of the CAT Digital Ignition System for G3406 Engines".For proper operation, the condition and installation of the engine speed/timing sensor must be correct. If the condition or the installation of the sensor is suspect, use the following procedure.

(1) Engine speed/timing sensor
(2) Locknut
(3) Gasket
Remove engine speed/timing sensor (1). Inspect the condition of the end of the sensor. Look for signs of wear and contaminants.
Clean any debris from the face of the sensor.
Install sensor (1) and gasket (3) into the cover. Thread the sensor into the cover until the sensor contacts the timing disc. Unscrew the sensor for 1/2 1/10 turn (180 36 degrees) in order to obtain a clearance of 0.71 0.14 mm (0.028 0.006 inch) between the sensor and the timing disc. Hold the sensor in place and tighten locknut (2) according to the engine's Specifications.
