Disassemble Rocker Shaft Assembly
start by:a) remove rocker shaft assembly and push rods 1. Remove retainer (1) from the end of the shaft.2. Remove the washers and rocker arm (2). 3. Remove the pins that hold the brackets to each end of the shaft with tool (A). The center brackets do not have a pin.4. Remove bracket (3), rocker arm (4) and the spring. Make sure all of the parts of the rocker shaft assembly are clean and free of dirt.Assemble Rocker Shaft Assembly
1. Put clean SAE 30 oil on shaft (3).2. Install the center spring, rocker arm, bracket and rocker arm.3. Install spring (1), rocker arm (4) and bracket (2).4. Put a piece of tape around the shaft on each side of bracket (2) as shown. Put the hole in bracket (2) in alignment with the hole in the shaft. Hold the bracket in this position and make a mark on each piece of tape in alignment with the hole in the bracket and the shaft.5. Put pin (5) part of the way in bracket (2). Put pin (5) in alignment with the marks on the tape and install the pin until the end of it is .34 in. (8.6 mm) above the surface of bracket (2). 6. Install rocker arm (6), washers (7) and retainer (8) on each side of the shaft. Install enough washers until the end play on each end of the shaft is .005-.040 in.
