Problem
The thrust faces of the crankshafts in 0R778, 0R1153 and 0R1157 Remanufactured Short Blocks may have been incorrectly machined. This is only a problem on short blocks with date codes of 3-88 and with .020" undersize crankshafts.
Action Required
Check all 0R0778, 0R1153 and 0R1157 Remanufactured Short Blocks with date codes of 3-88 in parts stock. If the plate on the pan rail identifies that the short block has a .020" undersize crankshaft installed, theshort block should be removed from parts stock. ***** U.S. Dealers ***** Return the short block in accordance with core return procedures to the attention of B. Verbeke with the comment 3-88 Defective Crankshaft. ***** All Other Dealers ***** Remove the crankshaft and install an 0R1210 Crankshaft.
Service Claim Allowances
***** U.S. Dealers ***** Submit one claim for all 0R0778, 0R1153 and 0R1157 Remanufactured Short Blocks removed from parts stock and returned. ***** All Other Dealers ***** Submit one claim for all 0R1210 Crankshafts removed from the 0R778, 0R1153 and 0R1157 Remanufactured Short Blocks. Four hours labor at Sell Rate will be allowed for installing the new crankshaft.
Parts Disposition
***** All Other Dealers ***** Return all crankshafts that are removed from parts stock and a copy of the claim in accordance with core return procedures.
