The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Marine applications that use the Multi Station Control System (MSCS) and marine engines that are equipped with an ADEMII (A2) Electronic Control Module (ECM) will not determine the desired engine speed accurately. The Powertrain Control Processor (PCP) is not scaling the signal correctly, and must be cleared to restore function.Solution
The issue can be avoided if attention is paid to the throttle control device and the PCP during commissioning. Power up the system, and apply the Intergrated Control Head (ICH), or Control Station Processor (CSP) head training procedure per Operators Guide, LEBM2714, "Multi-Station Control System Operator's Guide" and Troubleshooting, RENR7651, "Marine Multi-Station Control System ", "Control Head - Calibrate". Operators Guide, LEBM2714, "Multi-Station Control System Operator's Guide" can be obtained from https://emc.cat.com/. When the procedure is complete then proceed to activate the primary helm station and execute the following steps.
While monitoring the starboard desired engine speed on an Marine Power Display (MPD) performance screen or the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) status screen move the starboard throttle lever to the Wide-Open Throttle position (WOT). Wait a full minute.Note: While maintaining the WOT position observe the desired engine speed variable has achieved the high idle setting for the specific engine attached. An example is 2410 RPM for a 2300 RPM rated engine. When the high idle setting is achieved proceeded to the next step.
Return the starboard lever to idle position. While monitoring the port desired engine speed on an MPD, or connected service tool Cat ET repeat the procedure from Step 1.Note: Do not rush past the confirmation using an MPD, or Cat ET. If the high idle setting is not correctly determined, the scaling will be locked in a condition requiring the PCP to be cleared as described in the following procedure.Procedure if the PCP does not Command High Idle
One or both engines will not achieve high idle at WOT. One throttle lags the other. The throttle signal issue will need to be reset using Cat ET and a downloaded flash file.
Obtain 239-5784 Software Gp - Electronics PCP Applications from https://engines.cat.com/cda/layout?m=166001&x=7 under the "TIBU5207 Software" link. Obtain 296-7783 Software Gp - Elek from https://engines.cat.com/cda/layout?m=166001&x;=7 under the "PCP Software" link. 296-7783 Software Gp - Elek can also be obtained from SIS Web.
Backup your PCP configuration using Cat ET if necessary.
Connect to the PCP using Win Flash, and flash in 239-5784 Software Gp - Electronics PCP Applications .
Reset power, and restore the current 296-7783 Software Gp - Elek to the PCP. Reset power to the PCP with the throttle levers in the idle position.
Restore your configuration to the PCP if you have copied it in Step 1.
Execute Steps 1 and Step 2 as described. Do not retrain throttle device CSP, or ICH.
