Tooling (C) and (D) are the same except for 8S3168 Spacers (13).5. Install Tooling (D) as follows to remove the recoil spring: a. Remove 1D4719 Nuts (5), 2M0849 Washers (6) and 8S3168 Spacers (13) from studs (11).b. Install 2M0849 Washers (6) and 1D4719 Nuts (5) on studs (11). Adjust nuts (5) until they are an equal distance from the surface of front track roller frame (1).c. Extend hydraulic puller group (10) until it makes contact with the track adjuster.d. Use only enough pressure to extend the puller group enough to compress the recoil spring so the recoil spring retainer can be turned. Close the 1S8937 Valve, and turn the pump group valve to the "RETRACT CYLINDER ROD" position.e. Use Tool (B), and turn recoil spring retainer (12) counterclockwise to move it out of the roller frame 12.7 mm (.50 in). Slowly release the cylinder pressure through the 1S8937 Valve to let the recoil spring extend 12.7 mm (.50 in) [as measured on the puller group when the puller group retracts 12.7 mm (50 in)]. Close the 1S8937 Valve.f. Turn the recoil spring retainer (12) out while the puller group is retracted in 12.7 mm (.50 in) steps (increments) as in Step e until the force of the recoil spring is completely released.6. Remove Tooling (D) and the track adjuster from the front track roller frame. 7. Remove recoil spring retainer (12) and plate (14) from front track roller frame (1).8. Fasten a hoist to recoil spring (15), and remove it from the front track roller frame. The weight of the recoil spring is 25 kg (55 lb).Install Recoil Springs
1. Fasten a hoist to recoil spring (4). Put the recoil spring in position in front track roller frame (3).2. Put plate (2) in position in the front track roller frame, and install recoil spring retainer (1). Install the retainer as far as possible with Tool (A). For the correct assembly of Tooling (B), see Remove Recoil Spring.3. Install Tooling (B) on the front track roller frame as shown. Adjust 1D4719 nuts (5) until they are an equal distance from the surface of front track roller frame (1).4. Install the recoil spring as follows:
There must never be more than 12.7 mm (.50 in) distance between the recoil spring and the recoil spring retaining nut during installation of the recoil spring.
a. Slowly extend puller group (6) to compress the recoil spring while recoil spring retainer (1) is installed with Tool (A).b. When the puller group has been completely extended, hold the recoil spring in position with the recoil spring retainer.c. Retract the puller group. Tooling (B) and (C) are the same except for 8S3168 Spacers (9).5. Install Tooling (C), and install the recoil spring as follows:a. Remove 1D4719 Nuts (5) and 2M0849 Washers (8).b. Install 8S3168 Spacers (9), 2M0849 Washers (8) and 1D4719 Nuts (5) on studs (7). Adjust the nuts until they are an equal distance from the surface of the front track roller frame.c. Extend puller group (6)
