Note: Approximately 3.8 liters (1 US gallon) of oil will drain when drain plug (2) is removed. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove bolts (1) from the screen cover. The screen cover is located at the lower left rear corner of the sump. Remove the cover and the screen assembly.
Remove the screen and the baffle retaining nut.
Remove the baffle and the screen from the cover.
Wash the screen, the baffle and the cover in a clean, nonflammable solvent. Do not crush the screen.
Inspect the cover gasket for damage. If the cover gasket is damaged, use a new gasket.
Assemble the screen and the baffle on the cover. Install cover assembly.
Install the screen. Install the cover assembly.
Start the engine. Run the engine at low idle. Inspect the area for leaks.

Check the oil level. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge.
Stop the engine. If necessary, add oil.
