Right Side of Machine (1) Fan pump (2) Fan solenoidFan pump (1) is located in the pump compartment. The right side door provides access to this component. Fan pump (1) is part of the upper left pump stack. The fan pump is an axial piston pump with variable displacement. Fan solenoid (2) controls pump pressure. Fan speed is directly proportional to pump pressure. When the fan solenoid is disconnected, both fans increase speed to 2350 150 rpm.

When the fan pump is at rest, bias spring (5) forces swashplate (4) to the maximum angle. Engine rotation turns pump input shaft (6), which then rotates the rotating group. The rotating group contains barrel assembly (9) and pistons (8). The pistons rotate with the barrel assembly. Piston slipper pads (7) allow the pistons to follow the angle of the swashplate.As slipper pads (7) follow the angle of swashplate (4), pistons (8) move in and out of barrel assembly (9). As a piston moves out of the barrel assembly, oil from the hydraulic tank is drawn into the piston chamber. As a piston moves into the barrel assembly, oil is forced through the outlet port in port plate (10). This oil flows into the supply passage to pressure compensator spool (3) .When the machine electronic control system determines that the fan should be operating, an output signal is sent to fan solenoid (2). The magnitude of the signal is inversely proportional to the desired fan speed. Fan solenoid (2) and pressure compensator spool (3) control the oil pressure in the displacement piston cavity. As the signal to the fan solenoid increases, less pressure is available to the cavity of the displacement piston (11). Therefore, a greater input signal results in a greater swashplate angle. The increase in the swashplate angle increases the pump flow.As the pressure in the system increases, displacement piston (11) moves swashplate (4) to a lesser angle. The combined action of pressure compensator spool (3), the feedback springs, and bias spring (5) regulates the pressure in the displacement piston cavity. These components ensure that the pump output is sufficient to meet system demands.Pressure compensator spool (3) limits the maximum pressure in the system to 26000 350 kPa (3770 51 psi).
