Remove the generator.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove two bolts (1) and install Tooling (A). Loosen bolts (1) slowly and loosen the bolts evenly in order to partially release the spring tension in the drive coupling. After the spring tension has been released, remove bolts (1), reaction plate (2), and coupling assembly (3).

Remove piston (4).

Remove bolts (5) and spring (6).
Illustration 5 g01838097Note: Mark the location of springs (9) during the disassembly of the coupler assembly.
Remove nuts (7) and bolts (14). Separate retainer (8), springs (9), coupler (10), friction disc (11), plate (12), and retainer (13). Installation Procedure

Use two bolts (14) as a guide for the assembly of the coupler assembly. Position retainer (13), plate (12), friction disc (11), coupler (10), springs (9), and retainer (8). Install bolts (14) and nuts (7). Tighten bolts (14) to a torque of 54 N m (40 lb ft).

Install spring (6) and bolt (5).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Install Tooling (A). Note: Do not tighten bolts (1) at this time.
Position coupler assembly (3) and reaction plate (2). Install bolts in order to retain reaction plate (2).
The inner diameter of plate (2) has three notches. Position three bolts (1) onto the notches of plate (2). The three bolts (1) and plate (2) are used to center coupler assembly (3).
Tighten bolts (1) evenly in order to load spring pressure. Remove Tooling (A) and install the remaining bolts (1). End By:
