Illustration 2. Example of temperature detector.In some applications, such as connecting rod bushing installation, temperatures higher than 170°C (338°F) are needed. To by-pass the temperature detector in these applications, the detector must not be connected to the part that is to be heated. The part can then be heated but some other method will have to be used to control the temperature to which the part is heated. One method is the use of temperature sticks. See the second reference article. These sticks are used to put a mark on the parts. The mark will melt when the part gets to the desired temperature.
After it has been determined how long it takes to heat a specific part to the desired temperature, a timer can be used with the heater. A timer, that will shut off the heater at a desired time, is also available from the supplier of the heater.
