This Service Manual Supplement provides information for the operation and adjustment of Excavators which are equipped with the Long Reach Front Configuration. Use this Supplement in order to prevent damage to the long reach front from incorrect pressure settings. If your machine is not configured with a long reach front, certain service procedures must be completed. Counterweight removal and adjustment of the hydraulic components are typical service procedures that may be needed. Make sure that you contact your Caterpillar dealer before you replace the long reach front with a different attachment. The adjusting procedures are necessary to prevent damage to the excavator. The long reach front typically differs from the standard machine in the following areas: counterweight, bucket, boom, stick, lines group, cylinder group, and speed controlThis supplement should be used first to determine the difference between the modification and the standard machine. If the service information is not in this supplement, then use the Service Manual and the Parts Manual that is available for the standard machine.Operating Techniques
Do not try to swing the upper structure of the machine while the bucket is still in the ground.
Slowly lower the bucket to the ground in order to avoid excessive and sudden loads to the machine. Slowly and gradually activate the control levers when starting or stopping any movement of the machine in order to avoid excessive and sudden loads to the machine.
