Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove plug (1) and drain the oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove plug (2) and drain the oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Remove bolts (3) .

Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) .

Slide final drive (4) slightly outward. Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device onto final drive (4). The weight of final drive (4) is approximately 52 kg (115 lb). Remove Tooling (A) and Tooling (B). Remove final drive (4) .

Remove O-ring seal (5) from final drive (4) .

Remove bolt (6). Remove sun gear (7) and sleeve (8) .

Use Tooling (D) and remove thrust disc (9) .

Attach Tooling (E) onto wheel hub (10). Attach a chain onto Tooling (E) and around the axle in order to retain wheel hub (10) .

Remove the stake in nut (11). Remove set screw (12). Use Tooling (F) and remove nut (11) .

Use two people and remove ring gear (13). The weight of ring gear (13) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

Remove bolts (14) and plates (15). Remove hub (16) from ring gear (13) .

If necessary, remove thrust disc (17) from carrier (18) .Installation Procedure
Install final drive (4) in reverse order of removal.
