613, 613B TractorsWhen a new crankshaft or a new short block assembly is installed in an earlier 3208 Engine that had a crankshaft with six counterweights, it is possible that oil will leak from between the flywheel and crankshaft flange. The early 3208 Engines that had crankshafts with six counterweights had eight bolt holes in the flywheel and in the crankshaft flange. The crankshafts and short block assemblies that are used for parts service on these earlier engines have ten bolt holes in the crankshaft flange. When the flywheel with eight bolt holes is assembled to the crankshaft with ten bolt holes, oil will go through the two extra holes in the crankshaft flange and leak out between the flywheel and the crankshaft flange. Later flywheels all have ten bolt holes.
Either of two procedures that follow can be used to prevent this type of oil leakage. The first procedure can be done faster but if a replacement crankshaft or short block is installed at a later date, it will be necessary to do the procedure again. For a permanent modification, use "Procedure 2".
Procedure 1
Two A2291 Screws or two screws with no heads are needed. The screws must not be more than .62" (15.7 mm) long and must have 7/16" - 20 thread. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock Compound on the threads and install the screws in the extra holes of the crankshaft flange. See Illustration 1.

Be sure the screws are installed in the bolt holes so both ends of the screws are below the inner and outer surface of the flange. If the screws are installed too far into the bolt hole, the ends of the screws can hit the cylinder block and cause damage to the engine.
Procedure 2
Remove the flywheel and machine two .469" (11.91 mm) holes as shown in Illustration 2. Machine a .030" (0.76 mm) X 45° chamfer at the ends of the two holes toward the crankshaft.
Install the flywheel to the crankshaft with ten bolts. Put 8H5137 Sealing Compound on the threads of the bolts.
