At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Note: The following procedure illustrates the removal of the left axle shaft. The same removal procedure is used for the right axle shaft. The length of the right axle shaft is 2831 mm (111.5 inch) and the weight of the right axle shaft is 136.9 kg (300 lb). The length of the left axle shaft is 2970 mm (117.0 inch) and the weight of the left axle shaft is 144.9 kg (320 lb).
Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Use of Wheel Chocks".

Remove drain plug (3) and the gasket to drain the hydraulic oil from the final drive. The final drive contains 83 L (22 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change" for the correct procedure.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device onto cover assembly (1). The weight of cover assembly (1) is approximately 73 kg (160 lb).
Remove nuts (2) and the washers that secure cover assembly (1) to the final drive. Remove cover assembly (1) and the O-ring seal from the final drive.

Remove thrust washer (4) from cover assembly (1). If necessary, remove the four dowels from cover assembly (1).

Remove bolts (5), the washers, and plate (6) from adapter (8).
Remove bolts (7), the washers, and adapter (8) from cover assembly (1).

Attach Tooling (B) to the end of axle shaft (9).
Use Tooling (B) to pull axle shaft (9) out of the final drive.

Position a suitable lifting device around the center of axle shaft (9). Remove axle shaft (9) from the final drive. The weight of axle shaft (9) is 144.9 kg (320 lb).

Use Tooling (C) to remove retaining ring (11) from axle shaft (9). Remove adapter (10) from axle shaft (9).

If necessary, remove two socket head bolts (12) and clamp (13) from axle shaft (9).
