1. Move the machine to level ground.2. Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position. Move the transmission neutral lock into the LOCKED position.3. Engage the parking brake.4. Start the engine and leave the engine running during the following steps. With the engine running, this will ensure that the pilot flow is available to shift the diverter valve stem against the spring when the ride control switch is turned to the ON position.5. Move the implement lift control lever to the FLOAT position, and turn the ride control function to the ON position.6. Remove the guard which protects the gas charging valve (on 980F Wheel Loaders only).7. Remove the protective cap on the nitrogen gas charging valve.8. Turn the tee handle on the gas chuck all of the way counterclockwise. Attach the appropriate gas chuck to the accumulator gas valve. For 950F, 950F Series II, 960F, 966F, 966F Series II, and 970F Wheel Loaders, use the 7S5106 Chuck. (The 7S5439 Extension Assembly and 7S5106 Chuck may be a useful combination). For 980F Wheel Loaders, use a 1S8938 Gas Chuck.9. Attach a 1S8941 Hose Assembly between the chuck and the 2D7325 Tee. Install a 1S8937 Needle Valve on one leg of the 2D7325 Tee, and an 8T0858 Pressure Gauge rated at 0 to 15 850 kPa (0 to 2300 psi), in the remaining open port of the 2D7325 Tee.10. Install an 8S1506 Coupling Assembly (Quick Disconnect) in the open port of the 1S8937 Needle Valve.11. Install an 8S4600 Nipple on one end of the 1J3914 Hose Assembly. Join the male and female quick disconnects. Route the open end of the 1J3914 Hose Assembly away from the work area and all personnel. Opening the tee handle on the gas chuck, the 1S8937 Needle Valve, and raising the lift arms will cause the gas in the accumulator to be exhausted. Be sure the open end of the 1J3914 Hose Assembly is pointed away from all personnel.12. Open the 1S8937 Needle Valve, and turn the tee handle on the chuck all of the way clockwise.13. Raise the lift arms all of the way up to momentarily blow the relief.14. Close the 1S8937 Needle Valve.15. Lower the lift arms and rest the bucket on the ground. Move the implement lift control lever to the FLOAT position.16. Attach the open end of the 1J3914 Hose Assembly to the 8S1505 Regulator Assembly. Install an 8T0859 Pressure Gauge rated at 0 to 24 805 kPa (0 to 3600 psi), in the port directly above the regulator. Install an 8T0856 Pressure Gauge rated at 0 to 5925 kPa (0 to 860 psi) in the remaining port next to the regulator assembly.17. Close the 1S8937 Needle Valve, and install the 8S1505 Regulator Assembly to the nitrogen tank. Adjust the regulator screw to set the pressure on the 8T0856 Pressure Gauge to the appropriate charge pressure.
