Electronic Governing
The electronic system used for the 3408 and 3412 High Performance Marine Engines is a microprocessor based system that requires 12 to 36 VDC power supply for proper operation. The electronic control system will provide complete engine speed governing and diagnostics. The electronics provides two communication data links, ATA and CAT Data Link. The ATA link will be used to communicate with the Electronic Service Tool. The Cat Data Link communication can be used to display engine status parameters on an optional Caterpillar Monitoring System.In addition to engine speed governing, the electronic system controls cold mode strategies, torque shaping, programmable air fuel ratio control for transient smoke limiting, system diagnostics, and the two communication data links to monitor engine characteristics and diagnostic information.The electronic control system provides five 300 mAmp sinking outputs and one 300 mAmp sourcing output to drive lamps and/or relays as a warning system. These outputs provide warning on low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, low coolant level, high transmission oil pressure or temperature, low boost pressure and a diagnostic lamp. The electronic control system provides these outputs as an engine warning system and customers can connect a lamp and/or relay to each of these outputs.
