Remove the stick. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Stick - Remove".
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Lower the boom to the ground.
Retract the stick cylinder. Secure the rod of the stick cylinder so that the rod is unable to extend.

Disconnect the boom cylinder from the boom. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom Cylinder (Swing Boom) - Remove" for the proper procedure. Lower the boom cylinder onto Tooling (A).
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

Disconnect hose assemblies (3) and hose assemblies (6) from the stick cylinder.
Disconnect harness assembly (4) and remove bolt (5).
Illustration 3 g00547138
Attach a suitable lifting device to the boom. Use Tooling (C) to reinforce the lifting strap. Tooling (C) and the lifting strap should pass through the pin bores for the rod end of the boom cylinder.

Remove retaining bolt (7) and washer (8).
Illustration 5 g00882595
Be sure that the threaded puller hole in pin assembly (9) is clean prior to the installation of Tooling (B). Attach Tooling (B) to pin assembly (9). If shims are present, put identification marks on all shims for assembly purposes and remove the shims. Remove pin assembly (9). The weight of pin assembly (9) is approximately 11 kg (25 lb).
Carefully remove the boom from the machine. The weight of the boom is approximately 500 kg (1100 lb).
