Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove and Install".
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fluid system.

Remove four bolts (1) and the nuts that secure exhaust pipe (2) .

Remove two bolts (3), the washers, and the nuts that secure exhaust pipe (2) to plate (4) .

The turbocharger shield has been removed for photographic clarity.
Remove clamp (5) that secures exhaust pipe (2) to the turbocharger.

Remove four clamps (6) and hose (7) .

Remove two bolts (8), the washers, and the wire clips that secure the wire harnesses to bracket (9). Disconnect two wire connectors (10) .
Remove bolt (11), the washer, and the wire clip.

Remove bolt (12), the washers, and the wire clip that secures the wire harness to bracket (13) .
Remove two bolts (14), the washers, and the clip that secures bracket (13) and fuel line (15) to the engine.

Disconnect wire connector (16). Position bracket (13) out of the way.

Remove four bolts (17), the washers, and two half clamps (18), that secure hose assembly (19) to hoist pump (20) .
Remove bolt (21) that secures hoist pump (20) to the engine.

Attach an appropriate lifting sling and a hoist to hoist pump (20). Remove bolt (22) that secures the hoist pump to the engine. Remove hoist pump (20) from the machine. The weight of the hoist pump is 43.5 kg (96 lb).
